EVENTS IN ROME:
GOOD FRIDAY PROCESSION
This annual event, also known as the Walk of The Cross is held on Good Friday every year as an important part of the commemoration of Christ's Crucifixion.
Led by the Pope, the event involves a procession from the Colosseum up the Monte Palatino. The procession begins at 8pm from the Colosseum. Along the way, thousands of devoted followers carrying torches and candle lanterns recite prayers in Latin along the way.
During the journey, the Pope stops at the 14 Stations of the Cross, marking each stage of Jesus' crucifixion, from his sentencing to being nailed to the cross, to his death and finally the placement of his body in the tomb. At each "station" the Pope leads a prayer. At the final station, he gives a public address, relating each stage of the journey of Christ to current world events.
