What You Need To Know about Rome transport
Are you traveling to Rome? Whether you are going for a vacation or you are simply trying to make sure that you are making the most out of a business trip, you will notice that there are a lot of things that you are going to want to plan ahead for. The more you research, learn and plan for, the better your trip to Rome will be.
Make sure that you are not settling for just flying to Rome and "wing it". A vacation to Rome is not something to take so lightly. This is an amazing place and you want to make sure that you are able to make the most of it. One of the best ways to do that is to make sure that you are looking into the various public transport options in Rome.
Many have said that Rome just happens to have one of the best underground railway systems. It will take you to just about any tourist destination that you would like to visit. If you can find a map, you will see that the metro is designed in the shape of an X. Both lines A and B cross right at the Termini, which is central station. You can really spend your entire vacation using the metro and never have to settle for taking a Taxi. This is because you can use the metro and then walk to wherever it is that you need to go.
For those who are just passing through Rome, you will want to pay as you go. However, if you know that you are going to be around for an extended amount of time, it might just be worth investing in the seven day pass for the Metro called the CIS. This will only run you about 16 euros. There are also four day passes and those run 8 euros. Currently one ticket for one trip costs just 1 euro.
As of February 2010, there is the new Roma Pass which is 25 euros. The Roma Pass will give you 3 days of the bus and the metro for free and then you will get discounts for the various monument and museum admissions. Many find that this is a great way to save a little bit of money. Since the beginning of spring in 2010, there is now the Rome Combo Pass. This is basically a combination of the Roma Pass and a hop on and off boat and buss pass. You will also get some Italian lessons for free as well.
One thing that you are going to want to remember is that the trains get extremely busy during rush hour so you are going to want to plan your adventures around this. There is no reason to spend too much time in the stations when you could be doing something else that is a little more interesting. Also, be aware of pickpockets. They are around the stations all of the time, but especially during rush hour when everyone is busy and being pushed around. This is because they are hardly noticed. Even though they might not get noticed right away, you need to be aware that they are there.
As you can see, there is a lot to think about. Since you are planning how you are going to get around the city, you want to make sure that you are reserving a vacation Apartment in Rome that is going to bring you as close to the action as possible. When your vacation apartment is right near the public transport, you will find that the vacation will be much more enjoyable and a lot less hectic.
Once you really have all of this figured out, you are ready for the adventure of a lifetime. You will be glad that you took the time to plan everything out. Because of this, you will be able to truly have the time to see everything that you have always wanted to see in Rome. Of course, you will still probably finding yourself wanting to return to Rome again. At least for your next vacation there, you will already know what to expect and how to get around.
